As the Sun Goes Down | Engagement Photography

I had recently been asked if I could do a wonderful couple’s engagement photography which I have been fortunate enough to be friends with for quite some time. I of course couldn’t have been more delighted. We chose to do the session around a small lake at Patriots Park in Downers Grove, IL. The weather was perfect and as the sun was going down, it filled the park with a beautiful, warm glow. The whole time felt like just a couple of friends hanging out, laughing with the occasion snap of the camera. I couldn’t have been happier to not only be part of this momentouis time for them but more for what lies ahead for the both of them.  As they say “We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.” I hope that they return to this moment someday, and smile.

The Photographer

The Photographer Self Portrait Photography

Dreaming is one of the most important aspects of being a photographer to me. Photography doesn’t always necessarily have to be exactly what you see; it can be more. It could be what you want to see, or what you have never seen before. For me, photography has always been about seeing the world in a new way; changing ones perspective and challenging what you already know. Whether I’m in front of the camera or behind it, dreaming and exploring my creativity is what keeps the excitement alive.

They say dreaming’s dead, that no one does it anymore. It’s not dead, it’s just been forgotten. Removed from our language. No one teaches it so no one knows it exists. The dreamer is banished to obscurity. Well I’m trying to change all that. By dreaming every day. Dreaming with our hands and dreaming with our minds. Our planet is facing the greatest problems it’s ever faced. Ever. So whatever you do, don’t be bored. This is absolutely the most exciting time we could have possibly hoped to be alive. And things are just starting.

Lindsey + Neal: Chicago Engagement Photography

Chicago Engagement Photography

Lindsey + Neal | Chicago Engagement Photography

It was the beginning of 2016 and the bitter cold was sweeping through the air in Chicago, as I join a newly engaged couple, Lindsey and Neal, through Millennium Park. Like any other Sunday afternoon, the city was full of life, which makes Chicago the perfect location for an engagement shoot. From Michigan Avenue to the Cloud Gate (the Bean) to the Planetarium, each location added it’s own energy creating a unique backdrop to a truly special and exciting time in this young couples life. Lindsey and Neal’s engagement photography in the heart of Chicago.

A New Chapter

Chicago Engagement Photography

I’ve been fortunate enough to not only celebrate this wonderful couple’s engagement as they inch closer to their wedding but to say that I’ve been friends with Donn & Giovanna for quite sometime. I’ve been able to watch them grow from the very beginning of their relationship, to a newly engaged couple, and in a couple of months to husband and wife. I’m very glad to be a part of this exciting time in their life and can not be happier to see them as they venture into the next chapter of their lives together.

Flipping Through the Pages

Flipping Through the Pages

This concept has been on my mind for a while now. It all started when I shot Burn After Reading, an idea of throwing out everything that I once felt comfortable with and embracing the unknown. If you follow my previous work, I do not shoot many portraits, let alone self-portrait photography. So this was all new to me. I held up each page for this shoot and stitched them all together into one so it was a little more time consuming then a lot of my other work but I couldn’t be more happier with how it turned out and the process as a whole. For one of the first times, I was in charge of almost every aspect and it allowed me to get creative in a whole different aspect. It allowed me to think about photography as individual parts making up the whole scene.

Although I love landscape and architecture photography, I look forward to exploring portrait photography and even surreal photography more; to flipping through the pages of everything I’ve learned about photography and life and to seeing what’s next.

“Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.” T.E Lawrence

Face to Face

Chicago African Lion Photography

While making my rounds through the zoo, I was fortunate enough to get a picture of the African lion named Sahar! Located in the heart of Lincoln Park right along Lake Michigan is the Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s funny to think that one second you could be walking along the beach surrounded by the Chicago skyline and the next moment you could be face to face with a lion. When I was younger, I’ve always wanted to let all of the animals free. I guess I went through my Jumanji phrase, hoping one day I would see a stampede on Michigan Ave. while I watch a gorilla climb the Willis Tower and hear the roar of a lion in the distance at Millennium Park. Well that’s enough of nostalgia for one day.

Something I Can Touch

Chicago Self Portrait

It’s just one of those days

Give me something I can touch when the sun rise
Give me something I can taste on my tongue’s tied
Love life
Don’t waste another night
Stage dive
Jump like you could fly
Die young or grow old
One shot before you know
You’re gone
