Home is Right Where You Are

Chicago Skydeck Sunset Photography
Home is where the heart is. Home is where you make it. Home is wherever I am with you. Home is family to some, friends to others; a sense of nostalgia. Some are still searching for home while others do not know what home is. For me home is a feeling. It’s not a specific street, a set of random numbers placed on my mailbox, but more of laughter, smiles; a sense of being on top of the world. It’s not one specific place but a plethora of places, although I feel at home in Chicago quite often. It’s that feeling you get while you are standing at that place. The sense of excitement, enjoyment, calmness. It’s as if nothing else in the world matters except for this moment. If you are smiling right now, laughing, curious, or in love. If you are happy, you are home. Home is right where you are.

Lindsey + Neal: Chicago Engagement Photography

Chicago Engagement Photography

Lindsey + Neal | Chicago Engagement Photography

It was the beginning of 2016 and the bitter cold was sweeping through the air in Chicago, as I join a newly engaged couple, Lindsey and Neal, through Millennium Park. Like any other Sunday afternoon, the city was full of life, which makes Chicago the perfect location for an engagement shoot. From Michigan Avenue to the Cloud Gate (the Bean) to the Planetarium, each location added it’s own energy creating a unique backdrop to a truly special and exciting time in this young couples life. Lindsey and Neal’s engagement photography in the heart of Chicago.

A New Chapter

Chicago Engagement Photography

I’ve been fortunate enough to not only celebrate this wonderful couple’s engagement as they inch closer to their wedding but to say that I’ve been friends with Donn & Giovanna for quite sometime. I’ve been able to watch them grow from the very beginning of their relationship, to a newly engaged couple, and in a couple of months to husband and wife. I’m very glad to be a part of this exciting time in their life and can not be happier to see them as they venture into the next chapter of their lives together.

Reflections in the Sky

Chicago-Skydeck-Photography

The cars are stopped, waiting as a sea of people cross the street as if it’s just a part of their daily routine. I’m standing above them, blinded for a second by the reflections of Chicago off a building the Chicago reflects. Feeling grateful to be able to stand above the city that I call home. Happy Wednesday!

Late Night Walks

Chicago Skyline Lake Michigan Beach

No matter what the temperature is or what day it may be, one of my favorite things to do in the world is go for late night walks along the Lake Michigan Beach in Chicago. It has always been a sort of sanctuary to me. Maybe it’s the sound of the cars speeding along Lake Shore Drive, the few joggers passing by, the cool breeze trailing off from the lake or the waves moving back and forth from the edge of the sand as if the lake was gently breathing. Whatever it may be, it has a hold on me. When ever I need to clear my head or just need to take a walk, I do not hesitate to get in my car and drive to the beach. It’s more than just a quick escape from reality; it’s almost like a best friend (if a place can be considered a best friend) where you get comfort, can let go and can open up and be yourself at. I walk along the path, with the Chicago skyline in the distant, I recall the familiar scenery although every visit I seem to notice something different. I tell myself that I’m there for photography which I do most of the time, but often find myself searching for sea shells hiding within the sand or skipping rocks as I watch them disappear in the night. Just maybe, these are the reasons why late night walks on the beach are one of my favorite things to do in the world.

The Quiet Life

Chicago Winter Photography

The cold breeze struck my face as I quickly got off the train to Chicago. This was my first visit this year, and I couldn’t have picked a colder day. As I walked down the street, passing by familiar scenes of skateboarders chasing pigeons and couples ice skating under the Cloud Gate (the bean), I barely pulled out my camera. I was enjoying just being in this moment. It was hard not to be happy when every where you looked a stranger was smiling. So I continued my walk to the lake and found myself on the beach. May have not been the best weather for it, but there was just something about being there that was very comforting. I found myself sharing it with a couple who seemed to be on the same mission. They silently walked along the shore, taking moments to just stare out at the lake. I watched them as they were taking everything in. Although we were surrounded by the plethora of city sounds, it’s hard to be distracted while living the quiet life.

Blue View

Chicago Abstract Architecture Photography

I never get tired of that blue view… The best part about abstract photography is that there are no rules. I love being able to transform ordinary scenes that I walk by everyday and turn them into an unordinary scenes. Removing the context behind an image to the point that you lose what it is, keeps me knowing that things aren’t always how they appear. Sometimes you just have to look at it in a different perspective.
